Nominate Women.
Taking the first step.
Initiatives.
Professional Societies around the world engage members of the biomechanics community and celebrate their accomplishments in research, mentoring, translation, and more across all stages of careers. Women make up a significant minority of the winners of these awards, under-representing their presence and contributions in the field. Women are also less likely to be nominated for awards, which contributes to them not winning. Our goal at IWB is to change this to celebrate the amazing women in biomechanics and increase visibility of their accomplishments and contributions to our field.
What are we doing at IWB?
We are working to facilitate nominations of women for awards from biomechanics professional societies, like the American Society of Biomechanics, the International Society of Biomechanics, the International Society of Biomechanics in Sports, and many more regional and national societies. Our goal is to see at least one woman nominated for each individual award presented at professional societies.
We aim to address two major barriers in achieving this goal:
-
We want to provide information about the many award opportunities that exist across the biomechanics field. And we want to provide information about the nomination processes for these awards to support our community in nominating women for them.
-
We recognize that there is (sometimes considerable) work involved in submitting a nomination package. Our Nominate Women committee is committed to facilitating nominations for women in biomechanics by recruiting letter writers for nominees, providing nominators with guidance and instruction for preparing nominations, and organizing and compiling nomination materials for submission.
Resources for Nominating Women:
We have set up an Award Table which describes the awards from different professional societies including eligibility requirements to help identify potential nominees. There are also detailed nomination requirements and guidance for various awards. Use the different tabs in the sheet to see the awards organized by due date, category, and by professional society.
